Through the Trees

Living in a forest, I don't see the horizon.
So when an amazing sunrise happens, I only get hints of it shining through the trees.
It was an intensely coloured sky, for only a few short minutes, this morning.
Stopping to enjoy it, is akin to smelling the roses!

It's been a strange few days here.
I had a 'scarier than a bear' incident happen here two nights ago and it shook me up enough to throw a curve into my day yesterday.
[Due to how personal it is, I'm only sharing about it on a new 'My Off Grid Adventure Letters' post, which I added this morning.
These letters became available to Member's only a few years ago, because I discovered it's not always a good thing to post everything online - open to everyone/anyone.]

A good night sleep and a colourful sky to start the day makes up for so much!

September Asters

I always enjoy all the lovely asters that grow wild around here, as a late season dash of colour.
Or usually...and I'm hoping it still might happen.
We've had such an unusually hot summer, that nothing is as it should be....or has been most other years.

The white asters, that grow as marvelous tall plants, started blooming a bunch of weeks ago, and are already starting to grow old.

When the wild roses are turning into rose-hips, and the golden rods are blooming, these dashes of white brighten all the greens.

So far, the purple asters have barely begun, and the ones I've seen are the palest of purples.
They're lacking the deeper colour they usually have.

This is the September block of my Celebrating Flowers Block of the Month, from 2014.
I'm re-offering it this year...You can see the Celebrating Asters tutorial and request the templates and stitch guide here.

The aster has not wasted spring and summer because it has not blossomed.
It has been all the time preparing for what is to follow, and in autumn it is the glory of the field, and only the frost lays it low.
So there are many people who must live forty or fifty years, and have the crude sap of their natural dispositions changed and sweetened before the blossoming time can come; but their lives have not been wasted.

The Morning After...

I woke up to this lovely cotton candy sky.
It suited my sweet mood!

It's the morning after my Online Quilters Meet & Greet went online.
It was a crazy busy time getting it all together and it came together beautifully...if I do say so myself. :)

Yesterday was a wonderful whirl and I don't think I spent more than 20 minutes away from the computer, connecting with so many quilters - through the comments and through emails.

Working on my computer has been so much a part of my life lately, I found it funny to wake up in the middle of the night and realize I was dreaming about working on my computer -
Getting to some sewing soon is required!!

But not today - I've got catching up to do - A few things are days behind...and I need to get to adding them to my site today!
Emails, too...

Please Note: att & it's group, yahoo & optonline did not play nice yesterday.
Many of the contest entry confirmation emails got bounced back to me.
You are entered...even if you didn't get my sites automatic email to you.

...and then I'm looking forward to a whole bunch more visits to the Quilters who were so kind to join me for my online party.

You, of course, have all month to meet & greet these wonderfully talented ladies and enter for the Great Grand Prize from each of their sites.

Let's get inspired with some more Meeting & Greeting!

Happy Exploring!

Only One More Sleep

I've now lived here, off grid in my forest, for 8 years - as of August 31st.
And like the week when I arrived here 8 years ago, the white rose bush put out a late rose for me to enjoy. :)

When reflecting this morning, I realized that it's the eve of my 2018 Online Quilters Meet & Greet!

My very busy summer, sending out invitations,  arranging for the Great Grand Prize, and setting up the special page, is all coming together to go live tomorrow!!

I've so enjoyed being in touch with quilters from all over the world.
Some I've known for years, but had not been in close touch with, so we got to catch up.
Many more of the quilters were new to me, and it was wonderful exploring their blogs and the quilts they make!

I'm very pleased with my special guest list of quilters that are taking part, and I know that you will find some creative inspiration by visiting them, too.

I want to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all of my special guests - I'm so glad you could join me for this adventure.
And an extra big Thank You to the sponsors of the Great Grand Prize.

A whole month of extra fun!

You get to be inspired by quilters that you don't already know, and enter to win the Great Grand Prize from each of the blogs you visit.
One lucky winner will be chosen on October 1st.

Until Tomorrow!

The Film Quilt by Gail Thomas

I'm so proud of our National Film Board, here in Canada!
Their website is amazing.

Today I'm sharing the animated film Quilt by Gail Thomas.

This abstract animated film is a tribute to the unique and long-established art form of patchwork quilting. Using computer animation, digital drafting, and experimental design techniques, this mesmerizing film choreographs quilt motifs and designs and sets them to music.

Or if it works better for you, you can watch it on their site here.

Enjoy!
